Reporting an ADAS problem to the ILT

Anyone who experiences a problem with a driver assistance system soon wonders where to report it. The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) has a statutory task to oversee vehicles and traffic-related products.

Alongside this, the independent ADAS Meldpunt collects real-world experiences of unexpected, unwanted or unclear behaviour by driver assistance systems. These are two separate roles: ADAS Meldpunt is not part of the ILT and does not act on its behalf.

Does this sound familiar? Share your experience with ADAS Meldpunt. Your report helps build a clearer picture of how driver assistance systems perform in everyday driving.

What's the difference between the ILT and ADAS Meldpunt?

    ILT

    • official regulator
    • statutory task
    • focused on vehicle and product safety
    • can use signals as part of its oversight and enforcement work

    ADAS Meldpunt

    • independent initiative
    • easy-to-use, real-world reports from drivers
    • collects experiences of ADAS in everyday use
    • analyses recurring patterns
    • can provide insights for research and road safety

A report to ADAS Meldpunt does not replace a formal report to a regulator.

What is the ILT's role in ADAS problems?

The ILT is the regulator with a statutory task relating to the safety of vehicles and traffic-related products. As part of its oversight, the ILT can use signals about possible safety problems.

Reporting to ADAS Meldpunt is separate from any formal report to a regulator such as the ILT. If you suspect a serious safety problem with the vehicle, you can also contact the relevant regulator directly. ADAS Meldpunt does not handle this kind of formal report.

What does the independent ADAS Meldpunt do?

ADAS Meldpunt is an independent initiative that collects and analyses real-world experiences with driver assistance systems. This covers situations where a system responds unexpectedly, unwantedly or unclearly, for example with:

    • lane assist / lane assistance
    • AEB / automatic emergency braking
    • ACC / adaptive cruise control
    • ISA / speed assistance
    • traffic sign recognition
    • other driver assistance systems
